Wrong end of the stick

I’m slighty breaking the rules here – which is fine as I made them, there aren’t really any anyway and if there were, which there aren’t, they are in a constant state of flux anyway – as I’m relaying a story I was told about a fantastic travesty, rather than something that happened to me. But I trust the person who told me, so trust me.

His friend (yes I know it’s gone a bit mate of a mate already but trust me as I said)  received a text message from his mum, who mistakenly thought LOL stood for “Lots of Love”. The text read:

“Hi love, hope you’re ok, Granddad’s been taken into hospital, LOL.”

Update: It’s come to my attention that a very similar joke was made by a comedian on Live at the Apollo. Now I was told this story in good faith and I suspect that the person who told me was also told it in good faith. So there are two things that could have happened here. Either someone gratuitously stole a someone else’s joke and recycled as it fact or this kind of LOL misunderstanding is happening all the time. I don’t know which is, but I have my suspicions.

Anyway the possibility that this is a stolen joke reminded me of an awesome Stewart Lee routine about Joe Pasquale stealing a joke.
